Save Money By Using Propane Space and garage Heaters In Your Home
Maintaining a toasty warm home at the height of winter can be an expensive undertaking at the best of times. Although we would all love to keep a fully warm house throughout the winter months, it simply is not possible due to the astronomically high energy bills this will incur.
Most of us will have to make do with heating a few rooms where we spend most of our time, leaving the rest of the house at the mercy of old man winter. Nonetheless, there is a happy medium between heating the entire house and heating only a few rooms to save money - and this can be achieved by complementing your home's central storage heating system with a propane heater.
A propane gas heater is essentially a space heater that excels at quickly heating enclosed areas at a fraction of the cost it would normally take with a storage heater.
Propane heaters are divided into two main types; the radiant heater and circulation type heater.
Both are powered by a tank of propane gas, stored outside the house for safety reasons. Regardless of their exact mechanism of action, both radiant propane heater and circulation propane heater excel and providing a high degree of heat in a short amount of time at very little cost.
In contrast to propane space heaters, storage heaters are powered by the electric grid in your home and are normally considered to be a part of the home's domestic appliances. Storage heaters work by drawing and storing heat energy during off peak hours when electricity rates are low and giving this heat out throughout the day as required. This controlled system of storing heat when electricity is cheap and releasing it when needed can reduce your household's overall cost of energy.
The portability of propane heaters combined with their ability to work independent of the power grid and in enclosed areas with inadequate insulation make them ideal for use in areas like garages and other confined areas of your house which typically does not benefit from a storage heater system.
Using a portable propane space heater in conjunction with a storage heater can play a big role in reducing your total heating bill.
Although storage heaters try to minimize energy use during peak hours, it is sometimes unavoidable during especially cold days when the system as no choice but to draw heat from the electric supply to maintain a comfortable room temperature. Using a portable propane heater as an auxiliary source of heat in such situations ensures that you don't have to use your storage heater during peak hours, enabling you to cover all the heating needs of your home at a cheaper rate than normal.
Propane heaters carry with them inherent risks and safety precautions that must be followed to the letter for proper use.
Cutting corners and ignoring safety precautions when it comes to propane heaters is a very bad idea and carries with it severe risks like fire, explosions or carbon monoxide poisoning. Don’t buy a heavy and bulky propane heater that cannot be easily moved where as it will not help in a situation where need to only heat certain rooms at certain times. Always go with smaller, more portable units.
Make sure that you live in an area where propane is available cheaply enough to make propane space heaters a viable supplemental heating solution for your home. The entire exercise is rendered moot if propane fuel costs are high enough that simply heating your whole house with electricity is cheaper. A little foresight and research can go a long way in reducing your home's energy costs for the winter.
